China expects to increase the number of flights during peak travel for the upcoming Spring Festival, the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration said.

At the peak of the 40-day travel, which begins on January 21 and ends on March 1, travelers are expected to fly 73 million flights, up 12 percent year-on-year, according to the department.

Hundreds of millions of Chinese are returning to their heads each year during the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays to meet with their families. The Year of the Pig will begin in the lunar calendar on February 5, 2019.

To boost air transport capacity, China’s major airlines, including Air China, South China Airlines and East China Airlines, will increase their flights to meet growing demand.

Air travel is increasing in China thanks to the expansion of air transport networks and the increasing incomes of individuals.
