Memorandum within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative

On 12/1/2022, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the government of the Syrian Arab Republic and the government of the People’s Republic of China on cooperation within the framework of the Silk Road Economic Belt Initiative and the Maritime Silk Road in the twenty-first century.

The signing was attended by Dr. Fadi Salti Al-Khalil, head of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority on the Syrian side, and Mr. Fengbiao, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Damascus on the Chinese side, at the Planning and International Cooperation Authority building in Damascus.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding expresses the common desire of the two friendly countries to enhance bilateral practical cooperation relations, and welcomes and supports China’s initiative to jointly promote the Silk Road Economic Belt Initiative and the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century.

The importance of the Syrian Arab Republic joining this initiative lies in the fact that it aims to enhance the exchange of goods, technology, and capital, activate the movement of people, and cultural exchange with the People’s Republic of China, as well as countries that share a desire to participate in building the Belt and Road.

The memorandum aims to define the objectives of cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the initiative, its guiding principles, the fields, methods and mechanisms of this cooperation.
